Our Mission

Grounded in the principles of environmental justice, Epsilon Eta is a gender-inclusive environmental service organization founded in 2017. We offer a community for undergraduate students interested in incorporating environmentalism into their careers and everyday lives. Our goal is to acknowledge the intersectionality of the climate crisis and use our collective skills to serve UC Berkeley, Bay Area communities, and sites of ongoing environmental concern.

California Coastal Cleanup Day 🌊 ☀️ Ep Eta helped out at Muir Beach this Saturday, where volunteers collected 102lbs of trash and visited the Bay Model!

Schools back in full swing but we can’t stop thinking about our amazinggggg summer!! Eppies were doing it all this summer-studying abroad, interning abroad, working in labs, in nature and spending time with family and friends! Swipe to see what everyone got up to! ☀️

Our last senior spotlight of 2025 goes to the incredible Nishita!! 🌊🌲🪵🪻⭐️

Nishita graduated with a major in Ecosystem Management and forestry, and a minor in Data Science. She joined Ep Eta the spring of her freshman year and says that Ep Eta has “Given me a community I can always count on and friends I can turn to in the best and worst of times.”

When she wasn’t busy being the President of EP Eta, she was working hard at SERC and was performing on a Latin Ballroom team.

Post grad, Nishita is looking forward to reading lots of books that she hasn’t gotten around to, snorkeling and spending time in the sun!

Wise words from our dearest Nishita, “Take some time out of your day to take a walk and enjoy the sun ❤️”

Next is the one and only Kat!!! 🌲🔥💫🦋 
Kat graduated with an EECS major. Kat joined Ep Eta in Spring of 2022 after volunteering at a service event and says that Ep Eta gave her, “a community of passionate environmentalists like no other.”

While at Berkeley, Kat participated in CHAOS, Cal Climbing club, and participated in RX burning with the CCPBA.

When Kat’s not advocating for prescribed burns, you can find her climbing, hiking, or making art!

We are so proud of you Kat, and can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!!-EP ETA 🪵🪻🧗‍♀️🌱

Next is our lovely Charlotte! 🌊🌱🦈🌎

Charlotte graduated with a major in Conservation and Resource Studies, and a minor in Marine Sciences. She joined Ep Eta in the Spring of her sophomore year and says, “Ep Eta has provided me with a community of incredibly kind and creative people that care deeply about environmental justice and the intersectional perspectives needed to address climate solutions. It has allowed me to explore some of the best nature NorCal’s has to offer and spend time outdoors with the coolest people ever.”

While at Berkeley Charlotte has Facilitated Integrative Medicine Workshops, worked in the Martin Pupfish Lab, participated Mo’orea Island Sustainability Program, Volunteered at the Botanical Garden, and worked on AANHPI Health Equity Research!

As for the future, Charlotte is looking forward to long-term travel, having more time to read by the beach, and working in San Diego!

We are so proud of you Charlotte, can’t wait to see what’s all to come!—EP Eta 🦋🪻♥️

Next is the incredible LENSAA!!! 🌱🌉🍵🌸🌊

Lensaa graduated with a major in environmental sciences and a minor in city planning. Lensaa joined Ep Eta in the Spring of 2024, and says that, “Ep Eta has introduced me to so many fun and amazing people within the eco community at cal. And given me an opportunity to participate in service events and give back to the community!”

While at Berkeley, Lensaa was a part of SERC, BUSSA (Berkeley urban studies student association), and did research with research with SPUR. After graduation, Lensaa will be attending UCLA for a Masters in Urban Planning with a concentration in transportation planning.

Next up we have our amazing…SAMIE!! ⭐️💗🌲🤸‍♂️

Samie is graduating with a degree in Environmental sciences, and a minor in data science!! Samie joined Ep Eta her freshman year and says that Ep Eta has, “brought me some of my closest friends and fondest memories. Being able to go out to different parts of the bay and learning about cool environmental orgs has been so fun!”

While at Berkeley, Samie has been involved in the Environmental Health Alliance, been an RA for the Global Environmental themed housing program, and participated in the Dorris Duke conservation studies program.

Post Grad, Samie is looking forward to spending time with her family and going to the beach! You’ll be able to find her running, reading, cooking and eating oranges outside in the sun!

Next is our wonderful ETHAN!!! 🌲💗🌎💫

Ethan is graduating with a dou major in Environmental Economics & Policy and a minor in Conservation & Resource Studies. Ethan joined Ep Eta his junior year and says, “EpEta has really given me the platform to make a difference in my local community where I can through some amazing service events! I’ve also gained an amazing group of environmentalist and like-minded friends that I am so grateful for!”

After graduating, Ethan is looking forward to starting his graduate program at the University of Connecticut, where he will be pursuing an MS in Energy & Environmental Management, specializing in Sustainable Environmental Management & Planning at the College of Agriculture, Health, & Natural Resources! (But he’ll still be in the Bay!!!)

During his time at Berkeley, he is so proud of everything he was able to accomplish in just 4 short semesters including: adding a minor, an honors thesis, URAP, internships, and more!

Wise words from Ethan, “Enjoy your time at Berkeley and get the most out of the University that you can! There are so many amazing opportunities here if you know where to look :)”

Next is our dearest JACKIE!!!! ⭐️🌱🦋🪲

Jackie is graduating with a double major in Society and environment and Urban Studies. Jackie joined Ep Eta spring of 2022 and says that being a part of EP Eta led them to, “Meet my support system, close friends, and current housemates!”

When Jackie is not People watching, cafe hopping, digicam pics, sitting at dolores park, or skating to berkeley bowl for ebt sushi, they’re working on a FAST project or an EJ campaign for the ASUC, or doing something with @scecberkeley or @berkeleybside !

Wise Words from Jackie—“Berkeley is a vicious bubble, get out of it as much as you can. Stay present and say yes to everything (if you can). Life is never promised tomorrow so you gotta make the most of it while you can!”

Next is our lovely ALLISON!!! 🌱💗⭐️🐚

Allison is graduating with a major in Environmental Economics and policy, and a minor in food systems! Allison joined Ep Eta her sophomore year and says, “Ep Eta has given me community and lifelong friends. Opened doors to new hobbies and passions that I was not aware of before.”

Some of Allison’s favorite EP Eta memories include Ep Etas take over boiler room at POC house, meeting up with Ep Etas in Colombia, dancing with friends at prom and laughing at everyone’s plate awards!

After Grad, She is looking forward to working in the farm and food systems space to help my community and meet cool people!

Allison’s food for thought, “Do what makes you happy, fake it till you make it, everything is connected back to the earth!”

Next up for Senior spotlight is…..RAINE!!!!!!☀️🌱🪐⭐️

Raine is graduating with a degree in Molecular Environmental biology, and a minor in Geospatial Information Science and technology. Raine joined Ep Eta his freshman year, and says, “Ep Eta tapped me into a beautiful community of people that inspire me to be great! Genuinely so many silly times and enough laughter to last a lifetime, i giggle just thinking about some people. There’s so many fun and random opportunities in Ep Eta to do anything you can ever imagine bc someone is always downnnnnn.”

Participating in his first ever GAC, service events when we are all on our wit’s end, retreats, all the time spent singing in jaguar, and helping plan Sproutsidelands are some of his favorite Ep Eta memories.

Outside of Ep Eta, Raine has also been involved in @calameba , @scecberkeley , the bsc, several research labs, and yedi!

After graduation, Raine is looking forward to employment, the beach, SoCal food, traveling, and getting into some more hobbies! 🌊🌯☀️

Our first Senior Spotlight of 2025….MAYA SCANLON!!! 🌱🌊💗

Maya is an Ecosystem and Forestry management major! She joined Ep Eta her freshman year, and says that, “Ep Eta provided me a group of welcoming and inspiring individuals that continue to inspire me every day! It’s provided so much support and guidance throughout my undergraduate degree and I am so happy that I have been a part of it for the past 4 years.”

Studying abroad with some fellow Eppies in Moorea was a highlight of college and some of her favorite memories in Ep Eta have been volunteering at Green Valley Mill and Farm!

On campus, Maya is also involved in @calforestryclub , @scecberkeley , and Stephanie Carlson’s Evolutionary Ecology and Conservation of Freshwater Fishes Lab!

Next, Maya will be moving to Santa Barbara to attend graduate school at UCSB, pursuing a Masters of Environmental Science and Management, specializing in coastal resource management and conservation planning at the Bren School for Environmental Science and Management.

we’re just over here reflecting on our service trip with @sercberkeley in Yosemite! Over the weekend, we helped with trail building and maintenance, got Camp Tuolumne ready for opening, and learned about indigenous stewardship of the land. Thank you to Serc NEWT and fobtc for helping to make this happen!

we’re halfway through spring semester!!! which means…we’ve welcomed an amazing new class of eppies, we’re doing service in the sun, and spending time exploring all the cool places in our backyard! We can’t wait for all that’s to come ☀️🌱

🤲🏻 Introducing our partnered organization for Sproutsidelands, the Amah Mutsun Land Trust!

The Amah Mutsun Land Trust (AMLT) works to conserve and restore Indigenous cultural natural resources of the Mutsun and Awaswas peoples. They actively steward the lands and waters by combining traditional resource management, with contemporary approaches.

🌊Their projects of stewardship stretch from the north along Santa Cruz, to the ocean along the Monterey Bay, and down into the Salinas River & Pajaro watersheds.

🏞️ This year, our benefit concert Sproutsidelands will be donating to support the AMLT’s Coastal Stewardship Camp for Native Youth Program! This reconnects Native youth to the coastal territory through recreation, cultural relearning, and conservation education.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT TIME ‼️🌟🌱

Sanya Kwatra is studying EECS & environmental engineering! She joined ep eta during her sophomore year and is so very glad she did. She enjoys biking, cooking, and just touching some grass in the sun!!
🎓 She is also looking forward to traveling with other ep etas this summer post grad! (We will miss you all so much, have a blast <3)

☘️ Sanya’s favorite memory with us eppies was fall retreat, where we had our lovely beach day and baked cookies and made jewelry! It was a weekend filled with so much laughter!!

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year!!! EP ETA SPRING RETREAT 🫶🏻🌠🏕
We spent the past weekend in Colfax, CA where we soaked up the sun, swam, had our (spooky) newbie cross-over event, made homemade tacos, and hiked!

As the spring semester comes to a soon-to-be ending, we all loved spending time together before final exams & graduation 🫂⛰

Our next senior spotlight… 🥁🥁🥁.. SANDYA WIJAYA!!!

Sandya is a double major in Data Science and Environmental Science & is from Jakarta, Indonesia! 🇮🇩
She joined Ep Eta during her sophomore year, and loves scrolling through eventbrite for unique weekend activities (like yoga in a church), badminton, boxing, trying new restaurants and places, & experimenting with matcha latte recipes.

🍵 She completed her ES honors thesis on predicting effectiveness of Plastic pollution policies in Indonesia, and is passionate about using technology for societal impact. Sandya spent a lot of her college career learning about, and sharing about this to her peers to encourage more people to be more intersectional with their niche — this intersectionality of environmentalism is something Ep eta really focuses on and that drew her in!
She has also been very active in Data Science Society @dssberkeley

Sandya has many cherished memories with Ep Eta, but her favorites include making friendship bracelets at retreat while yapping away then waking up and doing a morning walk, and the La Hacienda service event!!

“We got to take home some radishes they grew and I made braised pork with it… truly a farm to table experience”

Words from the sweetest Sandya: “This community has given me so much joy and love, and has inspired me every single day since I joined. To my fellow eppies, thank you for making my college career so meaningful”

🏔Another day, another SENIOR SPOTLIGHT!🏔 Moses Castillo is a senior majoring in Environmental Sciences. He joined Ep Eta last spring as a junior, and has had nothing short of an unforgettable time with everyone.
🌱Moses is currently serving as the president of S.E.E.D.S, is an active member in the Ruhi lab working on freshwater sciences, and is currently wrapping up a senior thesis on Freshwater Stream Synchronicity.

One of Moses’ favorite memories with Ep Eta was the Green Valley Farm service event and Bodega Bay day trip from this semester! It was such a wholesome day of working with GVFM and then spending the rest of the day lounging on the beach, playing spikeball, and enjoying each other’s company.

Dearest Moses’ parting words: “This is a truly a special group of people that will change the world someday <3”

💫 SENIOR SPOTLIGHT! 💫 Mia is a senior majoring in Molecular Environmental Biology. She loves all things outdoors - agriculture, insects, icy water plunges, climbing rocks, playing on @cal_tarts ultimate frisbee... She joined ep eta her freshman year, and she never expected how many lifelong friends would come from it. Studying abroad in Moorea was a highlight of college. She’ll be working on a dairy farm in Vermont postgrad so visit her if you’re in the area! 🐄

Her favorite memory was at retreat when they found the absolute coolest cave and got to swim through it in the dark to the other side!!

From dearest Mia: “My dear eppies, you are truly family. Thank you for the most wonderful 4 years I love you all🫶”

Ep Eta loves Mia and will miss her dearly!! 🫶🏽

⭐️Our very first senior spotlight of 2024…. EMILY QUE!⭐️

🍀 Emily is a senior majoring in Society & Environment with minors in Political Economy and Sustainable Design. She joined Ep Eta during her sophomore year and instantly fell in love with the joy and positivity that is cultivated in this amazing group of people! On campus she’s also an active performer with @standupatcal (stand up comedy) and was recently featured in @fastcal ‘s new short film, Reverie!

💟 One of Emily’s favorite memories during her time in Ep Eta was going to BIG GAME this past fall! 🏈 We all went down to Palo Alto to one of Ep Eta’s past president’s (Val) house and it was so cool seeing Ep Eta both new and old coming together.

Ep etas returned to La Hacienda Farm in Petaluma yesterday for the Spring!! Despite the light rain (and some soaked shoes) we all had so much fun installing deer fencing, mulching the regenerative apple orchard, and weeding!!! 🌷🌳🦆🪱🏔

We welcomed our lovely newbies this past weekend at our initiation event, and had our first general meeting as a full group again this Wednesday!! 🙈
